GOALS/OBJECTIVES
Advances in education and training
have made the podiatric physician the premier provider
of foot and ankle care. Emerging
technologies and changing clinical practices are making
delivery of high quality care exciting and challenging.
The goal of this advanced Podiatric Mediterranean
cruise seminar is to highlight current thoughts and
strategies for management of selected foot and ankle
problems
The first section of lectures will focus on
arthrodesis indications and procedures.
The most common indication for arthrodesis is
arthritis. Another indication is for correction of
deformity. The Lis Franc, subtalar,
and ankle joints have been selected for discussion.
The objectives are to understand indications,
conservative versus surgical management, surgical
pearls, and fixation choices.
The second section of lectures will focus on
tendon pathology about the ankle. They will specifically
focus on the Achilles and peroneal tendons.
The objectives will to be how to diagnose and
manage specific tendon conditions such as tendonosis,
tendonitis, rupture, and dislocations conservatively as
well as surgically.
The third section will cover injuries sustained
by the ankle. This will include
sprains, pediatric and adult fractures, and
osteochondral lesions. The objectives
for this section include understanding patterns of soft
tissue and osseous injury along with conservative versus
surgical management. This will
include the more common presentations as well as unusual
variations. Additional objectives
include how to use radiographic imaging,
surgical approaches, fixation alternatives, and
follow-up care.
The fourth section will focus on complications
and what to do when they occur. These will include
nonunions, malunions, infections, and re-injury. The
objectives will include
