“Predictable Techniques For Total Aesthetics: A 16 hour Lecture Course on Techniques To Create “World Class” Dentistry”

                                                                        Robert A. Lowe, DDS,

 FAGD, FICD, FADI, FACD

Diplomat, American Board Of Aesthetic Dentistry

In today’s rapidly changing environment of dental materials and techniques, it is important that the dentist be knowledgeable and current.  It is equally important to consistently deliver optimal results using techniques that are proven and reliable.  Today modern technologies such as nanofilled composites, microcrystalline porcelains, pressable ceramics with esthetic veneering porcelains, CAPTEKtm crowns, hard and soft tissue dental lasers, dental implants, and computerized shade matching, to name a few, are revolutionizing the way we deliver esthetic and functional dental treatment.  Restorative materials continue to be developed and refined that allow for the creation of lifelike esthetics that are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth, however, the artistic ability of the dentist can still be the limiting factor on their optimal use.  Unleash the artist within!  Learn how these and other revolutionary technologies along with precise and proven crown and bridge techniques can elevate your standard of practice.

Benefits From Attending:  You will gain practical tips and step-by-step techniques in the following areas of esthetic and restorative dentistry:

·        Techniques and materials used to place morphologically precise direct anterior and posterior composite restorations

·        Esthetic Crown and Bridge Techniques:  Use of all ceramic systems and ceramometallic restorations in various clinical situations:

Tooth preparation: The importance of “negative space” and anatomic tooth preparation for functional
              longevity and aesthetic beauty.

Provisionalization: The progenitor restoration:  Custom staining and contouring.  The benefits of the
“diagnostic provisional blueprint” will be demonstrated and discussed.

Final impressions: First time, every time.  Use of the double cord technique and “cordless”
impressions. Digital impression making is also a clinical reality!

Treatment Planning Options:  Which material for which situation?

·        Complex Esthetic And Functional Oral Rehabilitation:

Complete oral rehabilitation demystified through the proper use of diagnostic provisionalization.  Complex restorative cases often involve a multidisciplinary approach to predictably restore a patient for long-term comfort and biologic stability.  Learning combined therapeutic approaches can allow the dentist to successfully restore many difficult situations that may not have been as easily treated in the past with excellent functional and esthetic outcomes.

Demonstration of many of the described techniques in a clinical setting.  An emphasis is placed on perioprosthetic
implications and solutions to create biologic harmony.

Part 1: Direct Anterior and Posterior Composite Restorations – 3 hours

Techniques to create lifelike and morphologically precise anterior and posterior direct composite restorations will be demonstrated in step-by-step detail.  The use of composite tints will be shown to create characterized restorations that rival those produced in the laboratory.  Techniques to create predictable proximal contacts will be shown using sectional matrix techniques.

A simple, yet esthetic layering technique will be taught with the use of composite tints to create beautiful, lifelike restorations.  An emphasis will be placed on development of anatomic contour.  The use of different types of aesthetic materials, i.e. condensable composites, flowables, and hybrids, in combination with finishing and polishing techniques will enable the practitioner to place state of the art restorations for their patients’ tomorrow!

Part 2: Clinical Techniques and Technologies for the Aesthetic Restorative Practice to Help Achieve “World Class” Result     8 hours

Methodical Tooth Preparation for Predictable Esthetic Excellence  – 2 hours

Tooth preparation (the use of negative space) is probably the single most critical step to restorative excellence.  With the different materials available today, it is important that the dentist understand the space requirements for each, so that the least amount of tooth structure be removed to obtain the desired result.  Step-by-step techniques for tooth preparation will be outlined for several of today’s esthetic restorative materials.

The Art and Science of Provisional Restorations and Impression Making – 2 hours

Step-by-step techniques will be shown to carve morphologically precise provisional restorations chairside.  The use of various provisional materials and indications for their use will be discussed.  The use of retraction medium will be shown and techniques to get an accurate final impression the first time, every time will be virtually guaranteed.  Digital impression making will be introduced as the future of impression making.

Laser Technology in the Aesthetic/Restorative Dental Practice- 2 hours

Today, the use of all tissue dental lasers are revolutionizing the way we deliver dental treatment.  Every day, new procedures are being utilized with greater patient comfort and shortened healing times.  Some of these include: Class I,II,III,IV, and V cavity preparation without local anesthesia, open and closed surgical crown lengthening,  biological width correction, aesthetic gingivectomy, frenectomy, and troughing, to mention a few.  Find out how this revolutionary technology can elevate your standard of practice.

Restoration of Dental Implants as Part of the Overall Esthetic Treatment Plan – 1 hour

Dental Implants are now a very predictable way to restore edentulous areas.  Learn parameters that will make the restoration of dental implants in the esthetic zone more predictable, and why in many cases an implant is preferred to conventional fixed or removable partial dentures

Cementation Techniques for Conventional Cementation and Total Etch – 1 hour

Delivery techniques for indirect restorations that will ensure accurate placement and make occlusal correction (adjustment) easy and predictable will be discussed in a step by step fashion.  Learn which cements for which material and clinical situation.

Part 3: Complex Esthetic And Restorative Rehabilitation: Smile Rejuvenation - 5 hours

Multidisciplinary Esthetic and Reconstructive Dentistry – 3 hours

The use of several dental disciplines is often required to optimally rehabilitate the oral cavity.  Complex restorative cases will be discussed that involve a multidisciplinary approach.  Manipulation of the soft tissue envelope, alveolar bone (surgical crown lengthening) using hard and soft tissue dental lasers and the indications and use of dental implants will be discussed.  There will also be an emphasis on morphologic and functional parameters, laboratory communication, including digital photography and computerized shade taking devices, and techniques for accurate laboratory case mounting.

Minor Tooth Movement and Prosthetic Tooth Repositioning – 2 hours

Minor tooth misalignment can present the dentist with aesthetic and functional challenges when restoring a patient’s dentition.   While traditional full mouth orthodontics may be the best treatment option for such cases, not all patients will accept that alternative and may desire an option that can yield a satisfactory clinical result in a shorter period of time.  When minor crowding, rotation, or spacing occurs, minor tooth movement utilizing Essix Smile Aligners or correction using ceramic restorative materials may be alternative treatments to offer a patient.  Learn how to fabricate an Essix Smile Aligner for minor tooth positional corrections and also how to alter tooth preparation to “orthodontically” align the preparation prior to anatomic reduction for restorative materials.  When patients opt not to undergo orthodontic therapy, learn how to treatment plan and select cases that with proper “orthodontic tooth preparation” can be restored to aesthetic tooth alignment using only restorative materials.

The purpose of this course is to demonstrate in a detailed step-by-step fashion, procedures that if practiced can impact on your ability to deliver an improved level of artistic and functional dentistry in your practice tomorrow!
