Personal History:
John J. Graeber was born in Newark, New Jersey on August 17, 1947.
His Family moved to nearby Bloomfield NJ in 1950.
He attended St Thomas the Apostle School and was graduated from
Bloomfield High School in 1965. A
Biology major at Seton Hall University in South Orange N.J. he graduated in
1969. Became a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity in 1967.
Commissioned a second Lieutenant in the US Army reserve in 1969.
Married the former Claire Perich in 1971 and graduated the New Jersey
Dental School in 1972 He served as class Secretary for four years and represents
his class on the Dental alumni executive board and chaired his class's 25 th and
30th reunions..
Served as a Captain in the US army Dental Corps at Fort Rucker Alabama in 1973
and 1974 during the Vietnamese War. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal
for his contribution to the training of Expanded Duty Dental Personnel.
Children: Kristen born 1974;
James 1977; Linda 1979; Mary and Ellen 1981.
In 1975, opened private practice
and resided in East Hanover, Morris County, New Jersey.
Active in church and civic groups, Dr. Graeber was a Grand Knight of
Knights of Columbus Council 6504 and
a Fourth Degree Member. At
St. Rose of Lima Church, Parish Council President in 1978, Lector and
Eucharistic Minister. John
chaired the Parish Center building
campaign. Completed 2 years of
Permanent Diaconate training for the Patterson Diocese.
He served as President and as a
member of the East Hanover Board of Health for 10 years; was an active member of
the East Hanover Jaycees, East
Hanover Businessmen's Association, Cub scout pack 20, the American Legion
and coached soccer, little league and girls softball.
In 2006 He was appointed to the Board of Health, Hanover Township.
In 2006 he was elected president of the East Hanover Community
Partnership a Special improvement District. In addition he has contributed to
the welfare of his community by serving on a number of ad hoc committees and
groups.
Dr. Graeber continues his service to his community as Boy Scout Troop 20's past
committee chairman, Was awarded Wood Badge and is a James West Fellow. a member
of the East Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Mayor’s
committee to form a village zone.
Moving to Whippany N.J. in 1987,
Dr. Graeber was ordained an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in 1993. and
2003. Married to Karen Lennon in 1992,
they headed the Adult Fellowship for eight years, and continue to reside
in Whippany. They are the proud
grandparents of Colby Patrick Townsend born in 2007.
Personal interests include racquetball, golf, canoeing, camping, long walks,
gardening and Yankee baseball.
