An overview of general and cosmetic restorative materials, techniques, and how to become more efficient in the process

 1. Minimum Invasive Dentistry

    A Veneers

        a. Lumineers:  The “no preparation, no temporization, no drilling” technique for smile enhancement

        b.Traditional Veneers:  sometimes preparation is necessary,  predictable temporization technique discussed       

        c. Composite veneers:  Do we always need porcelain to make a smile beautiful?  No !  composite works also

   B Bonding

        a. Anterior direct resin bonding:  revisiting an age old technique with applications and materials discussions

        b. Anterior indirect resin bonding; ( post curing composite)  We can be the technician and save visits for patients

  

2.  Crown and bridge

     a. PFM:  Overview and review of metals used in crown and bridge  

     b. composite :  used for definitive restorations

     c. CAD CAM:  Lab constructed all porcelain crowns and bridges

 

3  Restorative Dentistry

     a. posterior direct placement composites:  The “bread and butter” of general dentistry

         I  composite materials:  material overview         

        II  bonding systems  Total etch vs. Self etch, when and why     

     b. direct resin onlays:  We can make a lab processed onlay without lab fee

     c. directindirect resin onlays

     d. indirect resin onlays:  new materials for lab processed composite resin onlays


4 Business aspects of dentistry:
       a. You can't do the dentistry if they are not in the chair
       b. Insurance updates and impact on dentistry

 

A material overview is incorporated in each phase of the subjects covered

Dr. Abel is an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Society for Dental Aesthetics, and a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, International Academy for Dental And Facial Aesthetics. Dr. Abel has numerous articles published nationally and internationally on all phases of general and cosmetic dentistry. He is a visiting lecturer at several dental schools and a nationally recognized lecturer and teacher of the latest techniques and materials used in contemporary dentistry.
